The Fire Island Lighthouse is an amazing trip to take especially for the tourists and its local Long Islanders. When you get to witness the view straight from the top, you would know it as totally stunning. You can reach it easily by car and its museum is as charming as the lighthouse itself. It brings a unique sense of history from past to future.
Its museum is the former quarters of the keepers of the lighthouse and it is also where you can now find the art gallery and its very unique gift shop. In fact, this can be a great venue for various wedding ceremonies and it has hosted a lot of fund raising events that come on a regular schedule. You can enjoy the tours held to the Fire Island Lighthouse on a daily basis by the hour. On several occasions, they also hold special tours meant to be held during moonrise and sunset. Yes, these are the only times allowed that you can watch the moon rise or the sun set straight from on top of it.
But even on average days, you would still get to highly appreciate the amazing view. On the eastern part from the top, you will see the station of the Coast Guard right along the Kismet town as well. You can also get to see the Saltaire and the water tower right by the Ocean Beach. The exact lighthouse you will see today is not the original for its original stands at 74 feet which was made way back in 1826. It now stands at a height of 168 feet and can be seen even as far as 24 miles.
